For Women-How To Choose A Costume

For Women--Picking the Best Costume

Halloween for a lot of adults is more of a challenge in costume hunting than a celebration full of fantasy and treats. If, however, you can get passed this seemingly minor drawback you will be well on the way to having a easy-going, carefree evening. For the most part, ladies will probably have a more difficult time getting the right costume. For once, though, it could be for a good reason--there are hundreds upon thousands of options available for ladies of all personalities, sizes, and shapes. That said, the majority of ladies' costumes wind up falling into one of two basic categories--sexy costumes and everything else.

It seems to me that the sexy category has grown quite a lot in the last few years, the bonus being the costume choices are more diverse. Now it's not just sexy lady police officer or a sexy maid (though these are still fantastic options). Sexy costumes have spread out to include pop culture. Thanks to movies like 'Charlie's Angels' and TV shows like 'Alias', women can now have a more specific powerful and sexy figure in mind on Halloween night. It is, after all, the one and only night in a year when a commonly very professional and conventional woman can get away with cutting loose a bit in public.

On the other end of things; in the not necessarily sexy genre, there is also a great assortment of choices. Television and movies can still be an inspiration in this case. The classic television shows such as 'I Love Lucy' and 'I Dream of Jeanie' have wonderful women characters to dress up as. Costumes from a specific period are also a fabulous choice. An elaborate Renaissance era costume or even something inspired by the roaring twenties such as a flapper dress can be great fun.The 1950s is another great time period to play with. Think poodle skirts and ponytails. Most importantly, try matching your individuality to your costume. There's just not much that finishes an outfit better than your acting.

There are, of course the customary Halloween costumes such as a ghost, a witch, a cat, etc. These are probably a best bet for the traditional Halloween partier. Just about any costume idea can be changed to have a sleeker, sexier look or you can play it down so to speak, and remain modest. Plus size costumes are on the market in practically every style now. The most important thing is to pick a costume you feel comfortable and relaxed in, both physically and mentally. It can be challenging to pull off your look if you do not feel confident in your halloween costume.

Once you've decided on your costume, don't forget to accessorize with make-up, jewelry, wig, handcuffs, a handbag -- anything that is is best for your costume. I can't stress enough the impact a wig can have on a costume. When you get all your finishing touches in place, go to your party prepared to blow away the other guests at the party. Have a great time this Halloween and live out a couple of fantasies. Really, that is what this holiday is really about.
